Support displaced families

Happy to be tapped by my friend Paola to help out with this craft fair poster in the early days of The Welcome Committee

We’re a group of concerned Londoners doing something positive as a community to support refugees. We are doing this through sponsoring two Syrian refugee families to settle in London – giving them a fresh start, the chance to rebuild their lives in peace and hopefully have a new place they can call home. These refugee families have been identified by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the Home office as in need of resettlement and the Home office select the families for us. Once they arrive, they will have official refugee status.

The Welcome Committee will be doing everything from finding the family members a place to live, to getting their medical checks, setting up bank accounts, helping them learn English, getting the kids into school – meeting all of their needs as much as we can for two years. We hope that this will give them the best chance of really settling into life in London.

This (above) poster was cobbled together from free online assets and customised with a lot of tweaks for a charity event organised by the Welcome Committee who work to support refugee families from Syria who have just begun new lives in London.

For the actual event, it was an honor to somehow share the solidarity with internally displaced persons from Marawi through zines and recipes from Gantala Press from the Philippines.

Lucky supporters in London had the chance to get a sneak preview of two publications:  MANGA TUTUL A PALAPA: Recipes and Memories from Ranao Assad Baunto; and  LAOANEN: Kababaihan / Digmaan / Kapayapaan by Faye Cura.
